Garage door openedr making noise but wont open. You may notice physical damage to the capacitor leaking buldging etc. That is the buzzing sound that the customer hears. If the door opens with the wall switch a simple battery change in the remote should do the trick. When your garage door won t open with the remote there are few things that can cause this problem.
It can also be caused by attempting to use the garage door opener with a broken torsion spring. Unfortunately this is just something that happens with usage over time. The opener motor is fine but the shaft doesn t turn. Check the door s electric eye.
Firstly check that the garage door isn t locked. Shut off the power to the garage door opener. More likely you ll have to measure the capacitance to make sure it s within a good operating range. If it s on the way out that could explain the intermittent failure.
Worn gears inside the garage door opener s motor unit can make grinding or buzzing noises. The gears are spinning but nothing else is happening. If the garage door opener makes a grinding noise but the door doesn t move your main drive gear is probably toast. The main drive gear is the plastic gear that comes in direct contact with the worm drive gear on the motor.
If it has remove it and try opening the door again. Use a screwdriver to tighten the wire. You might be out of range. While the unit is open inspect all the gears and sprockets.
Check that nothing has fallen into the garage door track. A worn belt or chain and cable assembly can also make noise tighten chain or belt tension to correct this problem. The antenna on the motor could be damaged or blocked from the signal. If it is the door there are several reasons why it won t open.
Replace the gear and sprocket assembly or the drive and worm gears when they re worn and making noises.
